Course Title – Trade Coordination Issues

Course Description – When it leaks, who are you going to call? The roof or waterproofing installer, right? The authors and presenters will highlight several issues they have encountered on numerous projects where the work of other trades on the roof or waterproofing system has resulted in extensive investigation and subsequent repairs to the roof and waterproofing assemblies, roof top equipment, and other building components to address leakage issues. Besides roofing and waterproofing contractors, other parties influencing the roof or waterproofing performance included structural designers, general contractors, MEP designers and installers, lightning protection installers, and telecommunication trades to name a few. We will provide a general overview of the nomenclature used to describe these systems to aid in understanding, addressing, and resolving these coordination issues. We will discuss design and construction coordination practices that often result in these failures, compare industry guidance with typical practices, and review specific details and components that commonly result in conflicts and failures. We will provide recommendations and best practices to address these challenges for both new construction and existing buildings.
